Wandering Bear

Everything you need to know!

Thank you so much for choosing to stay at Wandering Bear for your vacation! We appreciate your patronage and want to make sure you have everything you need during your stay.

HOW DO I ENTER THE HOUSE?

Walk down the path on either side of the house to the lower level.

There is a digital lock on the door.

You will be sent a code via text and email prior to your arrival.

WHERE SHOULD WE PARK?

There is parking for two vehicles on the lower driveway to the left of the main house.

WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?

The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping.

Western North Carolina is home to black bears. They are beautiful to watch, but should never be intentionally fed, and trash should always be secured during your stay.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?

Please place ONLY bagged trash in the trash cans. There is a bear proof bin next to the lower driveway with two trash bins inside. Depending on the length of your stay, one of our property managers may come by to collect the trash.

CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?

Absolutely. The well water is delicious and safe to drink!

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?

You have rented the lower-level apartment. Please do not go on the upper decks.

The upper house is not occupied, there is no one there to answer questions. If you need assistance during your stay please contact Cottonwood Properties.

Yes! The router is located on top of the kitchen cabinets.

GRILL

On the deck there is a propane grill. Please be sure to let Cottonwood Properties know if you use the last of the propane and they will refill it.

HEAT AND A/C

We use a mini-split system. These are controlled by remotes. Each mini split remote is mounted on the wall in each room. Set to comfortable levels during your stay. Please turn them all off when departing.

FIRE PIT

The fire pit is electric and  runs on propane. Just turn it on and enjoy!

Please be sure to let Cottonwood Properties know if you use the last of the propane and they will refill it.

WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE

Don’t panic! There is a flashlight and extra batteries located under the kitchen sink.

WASHER/DRYER

The laundry room is in the primary bedroom. We’ve left a few laundry pods above the washer in case you would like to wash a load while you are here.

WHAT IS AROUND THE HOUSE?

The cabin is in a great central location with easy access to Old Fort, Black Mountain, Lake Lure, and Asheville. It’s the perfect home base to explore all that Western North Carolina has to offer, while still private enough to enjoy some peace and quiet.

HIKING

You are welcome to hike along Winding Ridge Road. It is a 2.5 mile hike to High Acres and back. All dogs should be on leash while hiking. There are some hiking trails on the neighboring property, these are not open to the public.

Check out the website “AllTrails” (full link below) to see hiking options in our area. This site allows you to see the length of trails, relative difficulty, estimated time, and feedback from other hikers.
