Ursa Minor

Everything you need to know!

Thank you so much for choosing to stay at Ursa Minor for your vacation! We appreciate your patronage and want to make sure you have everything you need during your stay.

HOW DO I ENTER THE HOUSE?

There is a keypad that allows entry into the house. You will receive the code via email and text several days prior to your arrival.

WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?

You may see wildlife in the woods. The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?

There is a black, metal box with white writing for household trash and a traditional can for recycling. We have black bears in our area that love to make a mess of any trash that is not well-secured. Please make sure that anything placed in either receptacle is bagged appropriately. We remove the bags each week and it creates an unnecessary mess when waste is tossed into the receptacles without bags.

Our trash pickup day is on Wednesday. If you are here on that day, please take bagged trash to the road for pickup.

CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?

Absolutely. The water is safe to drink!

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?

There is a regular drip coffee maker in the kitchen and we have provided a small jar of organically roasted coffee from Black Mountain’s own Dynamite Roasting Company. Enjoy it during your stay, but please leave the jar behind for future guests.

IS THERE WIFI?

Yes! The router is located behind the chair to the right of the fireplace.

Network name: SpectrumSetup-31

HOW DO I WORK THE T.V.?

Using the Roku remote control, turn the power on and select your streaming app. Login in using your account. Use the home button to download a specific app if needed. Remember to log out of your account before leaving.

GRILLS

There is a gas grill near the parking area at the bottom of the steps.

HEAT AND A/C

Feel free to control the thermostats to your liking. It is located at the top of the stairs leading to the bedrooms.

WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE

Don’t panic! Let one of our property managers know about the outage and Duke Progress will get the power back on as soon as they can. There is a lanturn and two small flashlights on the shelf above the microwave.

WASHER/DRYER

Feel free to use the washer and dryer during your stay. It is a stackable unit located in the main level bathroom.

WHAT IS AROUND THE HOUSE?

The cabin is in a great central location with easy access to many of the incredible things our area has to offer! As you can see from the front porch, you are only a very short walk away from the Black Mountain Golf Course. Also nearby is Lake Tomahawk, with a .55 mile walking or jogging trail and a stunning view of the Seven Sisters Mountain Range.

Downtown Black Mountain is approximately one mile away and is home to many locally owned shops and restaurants. We are affectionately known as “The Little Town That Rocks” because of our scenic views, friendly locals (if we do say so ourselves), and the wide range of activities available.

HIKING

Check out the website “AllTrails” (full link below) to see hiking options in our area. This site allows you to see the length of trails, relative difficulty, estimated time, and feedback from other hikers.
