HOW DO I ENTER THE HOUSE?
There is an electronic door lock. You would have received the code via text and email a few days before your arrival. Once the code has been entered, you may access the home.
WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?
The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping.
Western North Carolina is home to black bears. They are beautiful to watch, but should never be intentionally fed, and trash should always be secured during your stay.
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?
Please place ONLY bagged trash in the large trash bin. Depending on the length of your stay, one of our property managers may come by to collect the trash.
CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?
Absolutely. The water is safe to drink!
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?
The home is fully equipped with everything you may need! Cottonwood Properties provides a “Starter Pack” of items to help get your vacation started. We keep 2 rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom, a roll of paper towels, a few laundry and dishwasher pods, dryer sheets, hand and dish soap, a few trash bags, and a sponge.

WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE
Don’t panic! There is a flashlight and extra batteries located under the kitchen sink. Please send a text to the emergency number and we will be in touch with the power company as soon as we can.
WHAT IS AROUND THE HOUSE?
The cabin is in a great central location with easy access to Old Fort, Black Mountain, Montreat, and Asheville. It’s the perfect home base to explore all that Western North Carolina has to offer, while still private enough to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Check-Out Instructions
Please be respectful of our 10:00 a.m. check-out time.
- Remove all used sheets and leave in a pile on each bed.
- Place all used towels in the laundry room and start one load in the washing machine.
- Load any dirty dishes and start the dishwasher.
- Make sure all trash is bagged and placed in the large trash bin.
- Lock all doors and windows and turn off all lights.
- Remember to leave us a review on your preferred booking site!

Montreat College Hiking Trails
Montreat Conference Center is surrounded by approximately 2,000 acres of pristine wilderness that is permanently protected and will never be developed. The landmass of the Montreat community, as a whole, is approximately 4,000 acres. Conserving the Montreat wilderness is significant to the ecology of the entire region. Adjoining these large tracts of contiguous land are the Blue Ridge National Scenic Byway, Mt. Mitchell State Park, Middle Creek Research Natural Area, and the Black Mountain Natural Area.
Directions: From downtown Black Mountain, continue on Montreat Road for 2.5 miles to Montreat College. Turn right on Lookout Rd and follow the road through the college to the gravel parking areas at the Lookout Mountain Trail Head. There are a few trails to choose from; check the map at the parking area. The shortest are less than an hour round trip; all are rewarded with beautiful views at the top.
Catawba Falls Hiking Trail
Located near Old Fort (12 miles east of Black Mountain). In 2012, the U.S. Forest Service opened a parking lot and restrooms for this waterfall hiking trail in Pisgah National Forest. The 1.5 mile (3 miles round trip) is a steady and slightly uphill walk, but is not difficult. It follows the Catawba River, with many smaller cascades along the way. No campsites or access for mountain biking.
Directions: Take I-40 east to Exit 73 at Old Fort. Before the exit ramp ends, take the right-hand turn onto Catawba River Rd. Drive 3 miles to the end of the road into the parking lot.
**NOTE: This trail will be closing from May 2, 2022-Spring 2024 for repairs and upgrades.
Chimney Rock State Park & Hikes
Don’t miss seeing this 500-million-year-old towering monolith and “One-Stop Shopping” for dramatic scenery, exhilarating hiking trails, rare plants, native wildlife, and one of NC’s highest waterfalls (featured in the movie The Last of the Mohicans).
To reach the top of Chimney Rock, drive up a 3-mile winding road to a large parking area. Then climb 500 steps to the chimney, or ride the elevator and climb a short staircase to the top. On a clear day, enjoy 75-mile views! There are several great hikes at Chimney Rock, from easy to strenuous. For more info, prices and hours, go to the Chimney Rock website.
Directions: Take NC-9 south for about 17 miles. Go left on US Hwy 74 ALT for about 3 miles to Chimney Rock. A great day trip from Black Mountain! Enjoy lunch at one of several great restaurants in Chimney Rock before heading back!
Blue Ridge Parkway
A Blue Ridge Parkway experience is like none other: a slow-paced and relaxing drive revealing stunning long-range vistas and close-up views of the rugged mountains and pastoral landscapes of the Appalachian highlands. The Parkway meanders for 469 miles, protecting a diversity of plants and animals, and providing opportunities for enjoying all that makes this region of the country so special. Don’t be in a rush; enjoy the journey!
Directions to the closest entrance: Take I-40 West from Black Mountain to Exit 55. Turn right onto Porters Cove Rd. Turn left on Tunnel Road and continue one mile to the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Be sure to check for entrance closures before you head out.
