Frolly Falls

Everything you need to know!

Thank you so much for choosing to stay at Frolly Falls for your vacation! We appreciate your patronage and want to make sure you have everything you need during your stay.

HOW DO I ENTER THE HOUSE?

There is a gate when entering Catawba Falls Preserve. The gate code is 7857

There is a lock box mounted to the firewood rack on the front porch. The code for the Lock box is 1999. Feel free to keep the key with you as you come and go during your stay, but make certain that it’s returned to the box and locked on the morning of your departure.

WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?

The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping. Our trash service, Vixster, will pick up trash from the garage on Wednesday.

Western North Carolina is home to black bears. They are beautiful to watch if they visit during your stay, but should never be intentionally (or unintentionally) fed. Trash should always be secured; do not leave food outside of the house or in your vehicles.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?

There are regular trash cans and recycling cans in the garage. Specific directions for recycling are located on the can in the kitchen (no glass in the main recycling can: paper, plastic, and aluminum only. There is a separate “glass only” can near the interior garage door).

Please be certain that all trash is bagged. Our trash service will not remove trash  if there is loose trash in the can, which may result in an additional cleaning fee.

CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?

Absolutely! A well is used to provide water and there is a whole-house filtration system.  The water can look cloudy at times, but it is 100% safe to drink.

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST GROCERY STORE?

There are 3 grocery stores nearby. Frisbees is 17 minutes away in Old Fort and has all of your essentials.  Ingles’ flagship grocery store is in Black Mountain, 20 minutes away.  You can also order from Wholefoods via Amazon who will deliver to your doorstep.  They know the house well!

IS THERE WIFI?

Yes! There are 2 routers in the house. If you experience issues, please contact one of our property managers.

HEAT AND A/C

There are 3 thermostats, one on each floor. Please do not turn them off or set them to extreme temperatures.  The home runs warm, so we recommend setting it at 68 or 69 degrees.

WASHER/DRYER

We’ve left a few laundry pods above the washer in case you would like to wash a load while you are here.

FIRE PIT AND OUTDOOR FIREPLACE

There is “fatwood” in the container to the right of the fireplace on the porch to start your fire and firewood available for use during your stay. Please avoid using paper products to start a fire in the fire pit or outdoor fireplace. Lighters are in the “utilities'' drawer in the kitchen.

WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE

Don’t panic! There is a flashlight and extra batteries located under the kitchen sink.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?

The house uses a septic system and the following routine maintenance procedures should be followed:

  •  NO ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP, please!
  • Do not put cigarette butts, paper towels, sanitary, tampons, condoms, disposable diapers, anything plastic or similar non-biodegradables into a septic tank system.
  • Avoid washing food scraps, coffee grinds, and other food items down the drain.
  • Use only septic tank approved household cleaners (bleach, disinfectants, drain and toilet bowl cleaners).
  • Do not put cooking grease down the drains, chemicals, and fuels.
  • Do not put oil, gasoline, paint thinners, solvents, photographic chemicals, weed or insect killers down the drain (even latex paint).
  • We offer 3 desks throughout the home to create easy and comfortable spaces for your remote learning or working convenience.  You could easily set up more spaces if needed or even pick a spot on the porch!

  • Each bed is already made so you can immediately start your relaxing stay.  Extra pillows and blankets are located in the closets on each floor.

  • Everything you need to cook is in the kitchen!  There are an abundance of spices in the cabinet to the left of the stove.  Serving dishes are in the hutch in the foyer.  There are multiple placemats for your use; they are in the hutch and in the cabinet under the TV.  Skewers for smores are in the “kidsware” drawer in the island.

  • Please be sure to rinse your dishes well before putting them in the dishwasher.

  • The bathtub faucet on the lower level has a somewhat “hidden function.” In order to move the water to the shower, pull down the ring under the faucet.

  • The lower level exterior doors, leading to the hot tub area, are a little finicky! Please keep the one on the right that is labeled closed and locked, only using the one on the left.

Our home is packed with fun things to do!!!  Here is a quick overview:

HOT TUB – We have a super awesome hot tub overlooking the mountain range with jets and rainbow lights.  It fits 4-6 comfortably.  Please be careful when removing the cover.  We service our hot tub weekly for your safety and health!  NO GLASS PLEASE.

FIRE PIT – Find a cozy stone (no joke, they are comfortable!), sit by the fire and watch the sunset while eating yummy smores!  Firewood is available at the front of the house and your welcome package comes with a few pieces of “fatwood” for easy lighting!  Please do not use newspaper or paper products to light the fire.  Lighters are in the “utilities” drawer in the kitchen.  We also have skewers in the “kidsware” drawer in the kitchen.  Please do not burn off marshmallow from the skewer; it is easier to clean with soap and water… trust us!

POOL TABLE – enjoy a fun game of eight ball or a competitive game of knockout.  Our pool sticks are not super fancy, so sharks must bring their own!

PING PONG TABLE – our pool table converts to a ping pong table.  It is in the open closet in the playroom.  Note, it is HEAVY, so you may need to help children set it up.  The net clips onto the sides of the table.

ARCADE – we have a super fun arcade table that offers 60 games including fan favorites of Pac-Man, Galaga, and Donkey Kong.

MEDIA ROOM – the third level offers a media room with a HUGE TV for you to watch your favorite movie or sporting event!

READING – on the third floor, please find an abundance of books to read.  Please return them to where you found them prior to leaving.

BOARD GAMES – on the third floor, there are a number of board and card games including an antique checker set!

CATAWBA FALLS HIKING TRAILS – our development offers roughly 8 miles of private hiking trails to creeks and waterfalls.  Note, these trails are not open to the public.

The most popular trail starts at the end of Catawba Falls Parkway where you will see hiking signs as well as a medic sign.  This trail takes you to two trails.  When you head down the trail from the starting point, you will wind down the hill to Hounds Fork (we unofficially named this after our own hounds!) where the trail splits left and right.

  • If you go to the right, you will go to the top of Catawba Falls.  Note, there are two waterfalls here: Upper Catawba Falls and Lower Catawba Falls.  You must cross the creek 3 times to get to these falls.  The path from Upper Catawba Falls to Lower Catawba Falls is for EXPERT hikers only.  The path to Catawba Falls and back is 1.5 hours.
  • If you go left, you will follow the Catawba River and pass Hemlock Falls.  You will cross the creek once.  We recommend you come back the way you came once you visit Hemlock Falls.

Your Very Own “Frolly Falls Hiking Trail!”

At the end of our property’s fenced in yard, there is a gate leading you to our own Frolly Falls Hiking Trail.  This trail is moderately difficult and takes around 10 minutes to walk down and longer to walk back up the hill!  If you go right out of the gate, you will wind down to the Catawba River.

Please be VERY careful as there are a few steep areas, follow the trail YELLOW markers and STAY on our property.  Our property is marked with PINK survey tape.
