HOW DO I ENTER THE HOUSE?
There is an electronic keypad on the front door. You would have received a text/email with your code.
WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?
The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping.
Western North Carolina is home to black bears. They are beautiful to watch, but should never be intentionally fed, and trash should always be secured during your stay.
IS THERE WIFI?
Yes!
Network name: spectrumsetup-F8
Password: pinklemon395
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?
Please place ONLY bagged trash in the box. Depending on the length of your stay, if you have more trash than fits into the can, you must dispose of it at the Burke County Landfill on your way out.
WOOD STOVE
Wood stoves are very efficient and are designed to be used with a small fire. When starting a fire, never use any flammable liquid to start it, and start small. Paper creates a LOT of smoke which will come into the room until the chimney heats up and paper is therefore, not recommended. Also never use wet or damp wood because of smoke. The lever on the left is the damper and allows the fire to breathe - put it in the up position to start the fire. Newer stoves like this one, do not have a flue adjustment. Keep the fire small and once the fire box and chimney are FULLY heated (after at least 30 minutes) and you would like to heat the room you can turn the blower button on the right to automatic and it will blow heat into the room as needed (optional). Always keep the door closed when unattended and open the door slowly and only with the damper lever fully up to avoid a flare-up. CAUTION the outside of the stove will be hot. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON TOP OF THE STOVE!
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?
The house is secluded and located off of Piedmont Road. Enjoy the fire pit outside, large entertaining spaces, newly updated kitchen, and game room located downstairs!
HOW DO I WORK THE T.V.?
The televisions in the home are smart TV’s. Please feel free to stream and watch Netflix with your own account.
FIRE PIT
There is a full cord of firewood at the firepit. Help yourself to the firewood and have a nice relaxing evening! Please make sure the fire is completely out before you leave it unattended.
We ask that you not use the fire pit too close to the home. There is a hose beside the backdoor, but please do not use it to extinguish fires unless it gets out of the fire pit or grill. Allow fires to burn themselves out.
Please call (828)250-6777x1 before starting any outdoor fires. The recording is updated every morning at 9AM and will provide information about potential burn-bans
HEAT AND A/C
Feel free to control the thermostats to your liking. Please return the temperature to 80 degrees upon departure during the summer and 60 degrees during the winter
WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE
Don’t panic! Duke Progress will get the power back on as soon as they can. There is a flashlight and extra batteries located in the upper cabinet to the right of the sink.
The house uses a well to provide water, which requires electricity for the pump to function. In the event of a power outage, there is water provided in the pantry.
WASHER/DRYER
The laundry room is located in the closet in the hallway. We’ve left a few laundry pods above the washer in case you would like to wash a load while you are here. The dryer is a ventless dryer and takes longer to dry than a vented dryer. Watch out for overheating clothes by using lower temperature settings and cleaning the filter often.
WHAT IS AROUND THE HOUSE?
This home is in a great central location with easy access to Downtown Morganton (12 minutes), Lake James, and Marion. It’s the perfect home base to explore all that Western North Carolina has to offer, while still private to enjoy some peace and quiet.
HIKING
Nestled in the rolling hill country at the base of Linville Gorge is Lake James, a beautiful lake with more than 150 miles of shoreline. Lucky for us, there is the ever-growing Lake James State Park, a playland for outdoor lovers in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is free to visit and very convenient to I-40.
Hike a relatively new trail system at Lake James State Park, with eight trails for all fitness levels at both the Catawba River and Paddy's Creek areas, including the .75-mile Holly Discovery Trail, a one-mile section of the Overmountain Victory Trail, and the Lake Channel Overlook Trail to a scenic vista. The Mill's Creek Trail Loop at Paddy's Creek is a 3.6-mile loop that can be combined with other trails.
Check out the website “AllTrails” (full link below) to see other hiking options in our area. This site allows you to see the length of trails, relative difficulty, estimated time, and feedback from other hikers.
