WHO MIGHT I SEE ON THIS PROPERTY DURING MY STAY?
The property managers may come by if there is an issue. The groundskeeper may show up as well to work on landscaping.
Western North Carolina is home to black bears. They are beautiful to watch, but should never be intentionally fed, and trash should always be secured during your stay. Remember, garbage kills bears by attracting them to populated areas. So, for everyone’s safety, please don’t leave trash outside overnight. Keep in mind the bears were here first!
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE TRASH?
There is a trash can located under the steps that guests can leave bagged trash in.
Please place ONLY bagged trash in the box. Depending on the length of your stay, one of our property managers may come by to collect the trash. Leaving more than 8 bags or trash and recycling that is not properly bagged, may result in an additional cleaning fee.
CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?
Absolutely. The water is safe to drink!
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSE?
There is a Keurig coffee maker and the kitchen is well equipped with plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and gadgets. Feel free to use any spices or condiments.
Absolutely no smoking (or vaping) is allowed inside the cabin. You are in a forest, so please be very careful should you choose to smoke outside. Please use water to put them out and dispose of them properly; no evidence of smoking should be left behind. We appreciate you respecting this policy for the comfort and safety of all guests.
CAN WE USE THE HOT TUB?
Yes! Please enjoy it during your stay. The hot tub has a max capacity of 4 people. Please do not bring any glass into the hot tub.
HOW DO I WORK THE T.V.?
There are 4 smart TV’s throughout the house for streaming purposes.

HEAT AND A/C
Feel free to control the thermostats to your liking. Please set it back to 68 degrees on your departure. Thermostat is located in the main floor hallway
FIREPLACE
There is a wood burning fireplace in the living room. A small amount of wood is located underneath the stairs outside.
WHAT TO DO IN A POWER OUTAGE
Don’t panic! Duke Progress will get the power back on as soon as they can.
The house uses a well to provide water, which requires electricity for the pump to function. In the event of a power outage, there is water provided in the pantry.
WASHER/DRYER
The laundry room is located on the lower level in the bathroom. We’ve left a few laundry pods above the washer in case you would like to wash a load while you are here.

You’ll have to make a trip to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino; only 30 minutes away! There is something for everyone at Dee’s Cozy Cottage.
HIKING
Water Rock Knob:Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, this is one of the “superstar trails.” Only about a 20 minute drive from Waynesville, the site features a parking area complete with Ranger Station. The summit is touted as the highest hikeable point on the Parkway and the trail is well-maintained and easily accessible. It is a moderately easy hike to the top with only about 1.3 mile round trip. The views along the way are excellent, with even spectacular views from the parking area. For those with limited experience hiking or with limited mobility, this is a worthwhile stop for anyone driving the Parkway.
Check out the website “AllTrails” (full link below) to see other hiking options in our area. This site allows you to see the length of trails, relative difficulty, estimated time, and feedback from other hikers.
